7:30–10:30 pm
The Sugar Mill (across the street from the Convention Center)
Sponsored by Archdiocese of New Orleans and NFCYM Collaborating Members to benefit the Catholic Youth Foundation USA.
Cost: $45
So many people visit New Orleans for its food and music, and because there is limited time for those opportunities while taking in all that NCCYM has to offer, the Archdiocese of New Orleans is hosting a "Taste of New Orleans," an evening of unending New Orleans food, entertainment, and Mardi Gras décor that will also serve as a benefit for the Catholic Youth Foundation USA.
Guests will venture across Convention Center Blvd to the Sugar Mill, an historic warehouse transformed into a reception venue, decorated in Mardi Gras colors and motifs. Some 25 of New Orleans best restaurants, such as Galatoire's, Dooky Chase, Tujague's, Brennan's, and Acme Oyster House will offer guests the quintessential New Orleans dining experience featuring some of the most famous dishes including charbroiled and raw oysters, gumbo, jambalaya, Bananas Foster, Louisiana seafood, and more. You won't need to go anywhere else for dinner or dessert!
While our restaurants are satisfying your appetite, your ears and feet will be treated to three of New Orleans' well known entertainers and their classic presentation of our music:
Your $45 admission includes food, entertainment, and photo opportunities with Mardi Gras floats and statues. A cash bar will be available as well. The "Taste of New Orleans" will be a wonderful opportunity to experience the best in New Orleans food and music with your fellow conference attendees, and benefit the work of the Catholic Youth Foundation USA.
On August 28, 2005 Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and surrounding areas. Amidst the carnage, numerous churches were also destroyed and the Archdiocese of New Orleans was flooded and its offices had to be relocated.
In response, the Catholic Youth Foundation USA quickly organized a fundraising campaign, raising more than $43,000 in less than six weeks to assist the young people from the affected areas in attending the 2005 NCYC in Atlanta.
The proceeds from The Taste of New Orleans will be given to the Catholic Youth Foundation USA as an expression of gratitude from the Archdiocese of New Orleans for all of your prayers, presence and “life support” over the past five years.
