Opening Second Line Procession

Thursday, December 9

7:00-7:30 pm
Start in Valet Lot Next to Riverside Hilton
Sponsored by Interlinc

Come and get your bead(s) on with an opening procession like no other! Join the St. Augustine's High School Marching 100 as they lead us down Convention Center Blvd in New Orleans style. Wave your NCCYM second line handkerchief and swing your beads while we sing and march with the saints of new and old to the Convention Center for the opening program. Note: The General Session Hall will not open until the procession enters the Convention Center.

What's a Second Line Procession?
In New Orleans, a jazz band would play and parade in honor of the life of a deceased person. The second line is the group dancing or walking just behind the band, which is the first line. Many in the parade either had an umbrella or parasol to add to the spirit of the procession. Those who did not would grab the nearest white handkerchief to wave in the air and join the parade. You can claim your own personalized Second Line handkerchief outside the Riverside Hilton prior to the start of the procession.
