Reid Sasser as "Damien"The American Showcase Theater Company presents a one-actor play titled “Damien”, portrayed by Reid Sasser. This is a story about Saint Damien the leper priest. Born Josef de Veuster in Belgium in 1840, as a Catholic missionary Saint Damien went to Hawaii in 1864 and began his life of ministry to the lepers on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. He played a key role in improving the lives of the colony of lepers who had been banished to the remote peninsula of Kalaupapa. He bathed and bandaged their sores, fed them, and cared for every aspect of their spiritual and physical lives. Saint Damien died in 1889.

Blessed Damien was canonized a saint by Pope Benedict XVI on October 11, 2009. “Damien” has been performed internationally, translated into four languages, well-adapted to the television medium earning Hawaii Public Television station KHET a Peabody Award in 1978.

Reid Sasser began his theatrical training at the University of Maryland. His list of credits is long. Besides continuing to tour “Damien”, Reid acts in film and video productions, and is a successful professional photographer. Reid is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He and his family live in Columbia, Maryland.
